Letter: Our university needs Hosein, an experienced problem-solver

People are right to be concerned about politics and the University of Nebraska. The Board of Regents is nonpartisan for a reason: its work should serve students and Nebraska, not a political party, and that is the clear reason why Dr. Jeremy Hosein is the right choice for District 1 voters.
The University faces consequential decisions about affordability, academic excellence, enrollment and the future of our workforce. Meeting those challenges takes a regent who listens, understands the institution and can bring people together around practical solutions.
Dr. Jeremy Hosein is prepared to do that work. He is a neurosurgeon who has spent his career serving others, first in public policy and now caring for patients. A Nebraska graduate and former student regent, he knows the University from personal experience—as a student, a campus leader and a proud alumnus.
His record reflects a commitment to solving problems, not deepening divisions. As a former student regent, he understands how university decisions affect students and families. His “Prescription for NU” puts academics first, supports students and faculty, and calls for a University that prepares graduates to solve Nebraska’s challenges.
Hosein has earned the support of current and former regents, student regents, faculty, staff, students and families. That breadth of confidence reflects the kind of leadership the University needs: thoughtful, collaborative and focused on its mission.
Specifically, former Regent Kent Schroeder and UNL Student Regent Kurt Schneider join us in supporting Hosein, along with former student regents Dr. Andrew Klutman, Dr. Jeremy Peterson, Dr. Faisal Ahmed, Eric Kamler, Moses Moxey, Martha Spangler, Dr. Krupa Savalia, Dr. Taylor Kratochvil, Sam Schroeder and Andrew M. Loudon. The Honorable Hal Daub, former University Regent, Omaha mayor and U.S. congressman, also supports him.
We may not agree on every issue, but we agree that Dr. Jeremy Hosein is the best prepared to represent District 1 and help strengthen the University of Nebraska.
