Last week I joined Mike Smith on 93.7 The Ticket Culture + Coffee . We talked political discourse, issues in higher education, and a lack of creativity in leadership thinking.

Nebraskans value common sense and straight talkers. They value trust and honesty. They know authenticity when they see it, and they feel when you genuinely you care about them. With the state of discourse today, people aren’t talking about the hard stuff. Polarization breeds malaise, a lack of creativity, and stifles the vision of where we can go, what we can be, and who we are.

Right now, there’s opportunity to restore what makes people believe that higher education is the pathway to opportunity and its power to transform lives.

When Mike asked me what makes Nebraska special place, I told him it’s about the people. We don’t have mountains. We don’t have oceans, But our people are our greatest natural resource.
